Those who are looking for an answer to the question «Will a 1-8 twist ar shoot 53 gr bullets?» often ask the following questions:

🔬 Will a 1 in 9 twist ar shoot 62 grain bullets?

Higher number twist rates perform better with lighter grain bullets, while lower number twist rates perform better with heavier grain bullets. Common wisdom for 5.56 NATO and .223 Rem. indicates those barrels with a rate of rifling at 1:9 or slower (1:10 etc.), in general, perform best with lighter bullets—60 grains or less. If you’re looking for a general-purpose, workmanlike utility player that pleasantly gobbles up anything thrown its way, 1:8 is a solid choice.

🔬 Will a 1 in 9 twist ar shoot 62 grain?

"long range High Power shooters often select 1:8, 1:7.7, 1:7, or 1:6.5-twist barrels to stabilize the long 77, 80 and even 90 grain bullets used for 1,000 yard competition." AND "There is, of course, an exception: if you want to use loads utilizing the heavier, 75-77 grain match bullets currently used by Spec-Ops troops and other selected shooters, you'll want a 1:7 twist barrel.

🔬 Will a 1 in 9 twist ar shoot 62 grain ammo?

A 1/9 barrel, in MY experience, is the most accurate option when firing 55 or 62 grain ammo. Since I dont shoot the current en vogue rounds that are extra long and heavy, requiring a fast twist, I have no need for a barrel that is proven by the US Army to have a quick burn out rate.

Using a 1/7 twist, I shoot 53 grain flat base bullets for 100 yard reduced, 77 grain bullets for 200 and 300 yards, and 80's for 500, 600 and LR. At 100, accuracy testing reveals I can expect, with either 53's or 80 grain bullets, groups in the arena of 3/4 minute for a 20 round string of fire-iron sights, prone with sling.

AR Barrel Rifling. The most common barrel twist rates for modern rifles are ratios of 1:7, 1:8 and 1:9. Today the most common rates of rifling in AR-15s are 1:7, 1:8 and 1:9. When Eugene Stoner designed the M16 he originally made things much slower—1 complete turn every 14 inches, with four grooves, to be precise.

Got a trade offer for a 1/8 twist .223 20" Varmint Upper. I mostly shoot bulk .223 Wolf 55gr. I know the 1/8 twist is for heavier bullets, but will it still work decent with 55gr bullets that I shoot? Also, can I still use my .22 AR

I have not found the fast twist barrel yet that will put light weight bullets in the same hole at 100 yards. I do have a 1-in-14 and a 1-in-12 that both do it for the first several rounds, after that the rest are still touching. This is with 55

Great article Marine, I got a 1/9 in my Ruger SR556 and a 1/8 in my Aero Precision. Use only 62-69 grainers in both. The 1/8 is a sub MOA all day long while the 1/9 is MOA+. Shoot PPU and Gold Medal Match 69 gr the most

However, most modern carbine barrels shorter than 20 inches feature faster twist rates, so shooters wanting a 1:12 should stick to the old-school 20-inch rifle pipe. Most modern AR-15 barrels will come in three twist rates: 1:9, 1:8, and 1:7. The 1:9 barrel is best for stabilizing lighter and mid-weight bullets between 45 and 77 grains.

An AR-15 with a 1-9 twist will shoot very well with a Sierra 65 gr SBT, Hornady 68 gr BTHP, Sierra 69 gr Match King or Nosler 69 gr BTHP. You'll want a velocity of at least 2,250 fps to ensure adequate stability. It will also stabilize both the 75 gr BTHP and the 75 gr A-Max bullets adequately for accurate 600 yard shooting, but you'll want to ...

1-in-10 Inches Twist Rate My first centerfire rifle was a Ruger Mini-14 with a 1-in-10 twist. This is a good twist rate for lighter bullets and will also generally stabilize projectiles up to 69 grains, such as Federal Premium's Sierra MatchKing BTHP load. Sierra MatchKing BTHP load.

Twist Rate Stability Calculator. The below Berger Twist Rate Stability Calculator allows you to identify what the optimal twist rate and the marginal twist rate is for any given bullet given your shooting conditions. This tool allows you to figure out which bullets will stabilize out of your rifle given your rifle’s twist rate.

Anyone have any experience trying these in 1:8 twist barrel - wondering if the twist rate is just not sufficient to get the most out the 75 gr bullet. The 75 grain Hornadays have a shorter bearing surface and were actually designed to be one of the few heavies that work in a 1/9 as well.
